Visitors from near and far

There are many young people here from outside the country doing good things. This week a group of young people from Brigham Young University came to the temple. They were nursing students here for a study abroad experience making friends and increasing their usefulness to serve in the future.
The next day a group of girls and one boy came to the temple from an orphanage in the colonial city of Cuenca. They were not associated directly with a university but were performing service under the auspices of a group that organizes such visits.
Then we became aware of a young couple with a new baby staying at the alojamiento (lodging facility). Both members of the church, he is from West Virginia and had met his wife on the internet. They are now going through a very difficult process of trying to get the necessary documentation for her to return with him to the U.S. It is difficult for them because it will be next to impossible for him to find a job here to provide for their needs while they work through the immigration process.
There was not a lot of time to get to know more about these people because we were kept busy with the young people who come to the temple. The assignment this week was for the Huancavilca stake. This is a small stake with only 5 or 6 units about one hour away on the southern edge of the city of Guayaquil. The stake president told me that his stake is about the size of a single ward in the Kennedy stake. This presented some problems for us. They didn't have enough adult helpers to do everything that needed to be done in the baptistry so we were scrambling for help from ordinance workers elsewhere in the temple most of the time. Still they came. Many of them several times that week.
On Saturday morning a special endowment session was scheduled for a ward from another stake in connection with their ward conference. There were about forty people there. Sister Rigby and I were there early but came home for a rest because we had to close the temple that evening. The last people to leave the temple were a newly married couple who were leaving as the temple was scheduled to close. Their wedding party spent some time outside the temple after it became dark.
